In summer, a free shuttle bus runs to Sauveterre Beach, 2.5 km away (supervised from mid-June to mid-September). Les Sables d'Olonne, France's second largest seaside resort, is not only the starting point of the VendÉe Globe sailing regatta that takes place, but also for the 3 km long Grand Plage beach with the finest sand and the maritime tradition. Formerly the summer residence of French nobles, the site is now famous for its fishing and water sports.
