Bij onze aankomst werden we onmiddellijk allerhartelijkst begroet door Dik en zijn italiaanse echtgenote. Het uitzicht vanaf het terras op de Apennijnen en Modigliana was adembenemend. Op de dag van aankomst was het vrij koel, dus kregen we uitleg over het gebruik van de houtkachel en de open haard. Dik deed alles voor. De woning is zeer ruim en heel persoonlijk ingericht met zowel moderne en oude interieurelementen. De geschiedenis van de boerderij gaat meer dan tien eeuwen terug. We hebben de woning gebruikt als uitvalsbasis naar onder andere Ravenna, Bologna, San Marino en Monte Falterona (1654 m) op de grens met Toscane. Het is een schitterend gebied zonder massatoerisme, behalve Ravenna en San Marino natuurlijk. Iedereen was uiterst behulpzaam en vriendelijk. Veel italianen spreken een aardig mondje Engels.
